Kevin De Bruyne has emphasized that his primary focus is regaining top form rather than engaging in discussions about a potential contract extension with Manchester City.
The 33-year-old Belgian playmaker, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, has been linked with a possible departure from the Premier League champions. However, his future remains undecided, and he could still sign a new contract to remain at the club.
After dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for several matches this season, De Bruyne has returned to action, starting in City’s last two games—both victories. When asked about his future following City’s dominant 4-1 win over West Ham, De Bruyne downplayed contract talks, saying, “I don’t care. I’m just trying to get back to my level. I feel like I’m improving every week. Fitness-wise, I’m better and can now complete 90 minutes. It’s been a tough couple of months with the injury, but I’m performing better and better.”
De Bruyne delivered a standout performance in a game where Erling Haaland netted twice and Phil Foden also found the back of the net, signaling a resurgence for some of City’s key players after a challenging spell.
Having spent nine successful years at Manchester City, De Bruyne’s future remains a topic of speculation, with reported interest from clubs in the United States. Meanwhile, manager Pep Guardiola recently addressed the situation, stating that while De Bruyne’s importance to the team is undeniable, the decision on his future will depend on his performances, fitness, and other factors. Guardiola added, “When he’s consistent and fit, he’s a decisive player for us. But the club will have to assess everything—his performances, age, and the situation—before making a decision.”
