Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes Mohamed Salah has no reason to leave the club, unlike his own situation during his playing career. The 63-year-old departed Liverpool twice, first joining Juventus in 1987 before returning after just one season. He later left again for Leeds United in 1996.
Rush established his legacy during his second spell at Anfield, much like Salah has done over the past seven-and-a-half years. However, he feels his circumstances differ significantly from those of the current Reds star.
Reflecting on Salah, who is out of contract next summer, Rush previously told the Liverpool Echo: “I’d love him to extend his contract. We don’t know what will happen, but I’m sure every Liverpool supporter would love that too.
“I left because I wasn’t playing regularly. I wanted to be on the pitch, not sitting on the bench. That’s why I moved to Leeds United—I wanted to play week in, week out. At the time, [Robbie] Fowler and [Stan] Collymore were performing brilliantly, and I didn’t want to be a substitute. I was enjoying my football, and that was the main reason for my departure.
“But that was my situation. It comes down to whether a player is content with limited playing time. Mo’s not even at that stage yet, so there’s no real reason for him to leave.”
