Stefan Bajcetic will not travel with Liverpool to visit Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday, according manager Jurgen Klopp.
The 18-year-old has experienced a “little setback” ahead of the Spurs match, according to the Anfield manager, who was speaking to the Reds media team.
Bajcetic has now made 21 competitive appearances for Liverpool, including a cameo in the team’s victory over Leicester on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.
After making his way onto the Liverpool squad and having a lengthy run at the beginning of the year, the Spain youth international has made an impression.
Since then, the young player has made a comeback, playing against Leicester during the week and away at LASK in the Europa League.
However, in light of Bajcetic’s recent recovery from the prior long-term ailment, Klopp has now stated that he is being treated for a calf issue.
“It’s discouraging,”
“Stefan had a little, little setback,” he said, according to the Liverpool website.
“The issue with Stefan is that we need to be extremely cautious even though I imagine everyone wants to see him play more, including myself.
“And now there’s a tiny, tiny, tiny calf problem. When you are six months out, things are like that.
And we make every effort to help him catch up without pressuring him.
āWe make a very specific plan for him but in the end itās disappointing for him, of course, but for us as well that he got another one.
āSo we have to take him out a little bit. He can work on pretty much everything else but not playing. Thatās it, I would say.ā
Our view
While itās a shame that Bajcetic looks set to miss the Tottenham game, itās good that Liverpool are being so cautious with him.
Heās an āunbelievableā talent who looks set for a big career in the game and, as such, itās important that they keep him on the right track fitnes
s-wise.
