Liverpool took a while this summer to finalize their first transfer, but their first signing for next season has already been announced.
Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, currently ranked 10th in FourFourTwo’s list of the world’s best goalkeepers, will be joining from Valencia next summer.
Nevertheless, Liverpool will be monitoring his situation closely after reports indicate he is scheduled for medical tests due to an injury sustained at the Spanish club.
Journalist German Munoz reports that Mamardashvili has sustained bruising and swelling on his thigh and is scheduled for medical tests to assess the severity and outlook of the injury.
Mamardashvili has played every minute in La Liga for the struggling Valencia side this season, with his most recent appearance being in Saturday’s 1-0 loss at home to Rayo Vallecano.
The Georgian international is spending his final season with Valencia, a club struggling with financial issues and currently in the relegation zone.
Despite agreeing to a €35m (£28.9m) transfer to Liverpool in August, Valencia managed to keep Mamardashvili for this season, with Alisson still serving as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper at the start of the campaign.
The 24-year-old Mamardashvili has established himself as one of European football’s top goalkeepers since joining Valencia in 2021.
Liverpool’s scheduled match against Everton on Saturday lunchtime was postponed due to stormy weather, but they will resume Champions League action against Girona on Tuesday afternoon before facing Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
