Leyton Orient Boss blast key player over defeat

Richie Wellens, the manager of Leyton Orient, believes his attacking players were subpar and that Jamie Donley, a Tottenham Hotspur loan player, “should have scored” in Tuesday night’s 2-1 loss to Burton Albion.

With 59 points, the O’s are only four points behind sixth-place Bolton Wanderers in the League One standings.

On Tuesday night, they had the opportunity to get closer to securing a postseason berth, but the Brewers twice held Leyton Orient back after the O’s scored an early goal.

Wellens has made no secret of his dissatisfaction with his frontline, naming Spurs attacking midfielder Donley and QPR loanee Charlie Kelman.

The 45-year-old is certain that Donley, who is enjoying a fantastic loan stint at the League One team, ought to have scored during Tuesday night’s O’s loss.

After the O’s 2-1 loss to the Brewers, Wellens told the O’s in-house media (4:03) that “I thought our front three in all terms were disappointing.”

“I believe Jamie Donley should have scored, and Kelman should have scored a couple, but overall, it was disappointing.”

“Ball retention, grab it; the ball is there, but we are ducking and flicking it on at times rather than grabbing it and bringing people into the play.” “Absolute panic football at times from us.”

With 12 goal involvements in 42 games this season, Donley has been a key member of the O’s team.

The Spurs loan star will try to finish the season on a high note by contributing more goals in the final seven league games as Leyton Orient is still very much in the running for a spot in the playoffs.
