Charlie Crew, a young player for Leeds United, is the target of a “very aggressive” England recruitment campaign, according to Wales Under-21 manager Matty Jones.
On Monday [2 October], Alan Nixon revealed via his Patreon account that England intended to pull off a “scalp” by convincing Crew to switch sides.
The teenage midfielder has represented Wales at various age-grade levels, including the U21s last month when making his debut, but he has yet to be capped for the senior side and can therefore be poached by England.
Jones declared, via Y Clwb Pel-Droed, during a press conference on Thursday [5 October], “I can affirm these are not rumors.
England is currently very aggressive in their player recruitment, which is something we should all respect because they are expecting to us to do the same, which is a big compliment.
“With Charlie, we feel very certain that we have done everything within our power to ensure that we have given him the best opportunity to succeed.
“I’m fully confident that he’ll stay with Wales. We’ve had good meetings with him and his parents, who wanted to make an informed decision based on all the evidence they’ve been given, and you have to honour that and accept it.”
“I have every faith that he will remain with Wales. We’ve had good discussions with him and his parents, and you have to respect and accept their desire to make an informed decision in light of all the available information.
