Ben Parker, expressing his surprise at the pace of the on-loan Tottenham player, told LS11 that Joe Rodon played with a “cigar” in his mouth for Leeds United last night as Daniel Farke’s team defeated QPR 1-0.
Following his suspension for the 3-0 victory over Watford, Rodon, 25, was reinstated to the starting lineup on Wednesday night. For the arduous travel to Southampton on Saturday, Farke made the decision to stick with the same lineup.
However, following the loss on the south coast, Farke made adjustments, bringing in Rodon in lieu of Liam Cooper. Leeds defeated QPR 1-0 as a result, recording their sixth clean sheet in as many games.
Parker was asked about Rodon’s performance and he said the £15m man is a “class act”. He said that Wednesday night was “easy” for him, and was surprised by his speed at the back – catching a striker.
“A moment in first half, ball played over the top, the striker ahead – his pace got ahead of him, played it back to Meslier. We haven’t seen that side too much, that turn of pace – is so vital. He’s a class act.”
Ben Parker: Joe Rodon played with a cigar in his mouth last night
Comfortable is an understatement. He was superb, was Rodon. According to WhoScored, he produced our best passing rate on the night – completing 42 of 46. Two tackles, three interceptions, one header.
While Liam Cooper is our captain, an enforcer and there is a long-standing connection with fans – Rodon is our best centre-back. Has to start week in, week out. He starts against Bristol City on the weekend.
