Manchester United may soon have to consider finding a replacement for Marcus Rashford, as he has expressed interest in taking on a new challenge. The 27-year-old appeared ready for a significant role under Ruben Amorim following his brace against Everton, but that situation may have changed.
Rashford was left out of the squad for the crucial Premier League match against Manchester City, with Alejandro Garnacho also absent. Soon after, he hinted at his future when speaking to journalist Henry Winter.
In response to questions about his future at Old Trafford, Rashford stated, “Personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.” Within 24 hours of these comments, Amorim was asked about Rashford’s situation and seemed to want him to stay at the club.
Amorim explained, “No, [I haven’t spoken to Rashford] yet,” adding that he had given the players the day off. He emphasized that Rashford is a key player and will be pushed to reach the high levels he has shown before. Amorim expressed his desire to help Rashford succeed, recognizing his talent and potential to help the team.
If Rashford departs, it seems likely that United will look for a replacement. Amad has impressed in his absence, pushing Rashford further down the pecking order. Rumors suggest that summer departure is a real possibility, with Matheus Cunha and Viktor Gyokeres among the names linked to United. Additionally, Amorim may consider an unexpected option, with Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram emerging as a potential target. Barcelona has reportedly shown interest in Thuram but is unable to meet the €80 million asking price. With Rashford’s contract running until 2028, United could demand a significant fee for his departure, which might fund a move for Thuram. The French forward has been in excellent form, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists this season.
