The struggling forward, who has been with Manchester United since the age of seven, is preparing for a future away from Old Trafford after being dropped by new manager Rúben Amorim in Sunday’s derby against Manchester City.
Amorim made a bold decision to omit both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the squad, citing concerns over their attitude and behavior as he aims to assert his authority at the club.
Following a routine health check at United’s Carrington training facility on Monday, Rashford was sent home due to a fever, according to the Daily Mail. However, on Tuesday, he visited his former primary school to distribute 420 Christmas gifts to children. While there, he reportedly told ex-Times journalist Henry Winter about his intention to leave United, as reported by the Mirror.
“For me personally, I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford said. He added, “When I leave, there’ll be no hard feelings. You won’t hear any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s just who I am. I’ll always be a Red.”
Despite having more than three years remaining on his £315,000-a-week contract, Rashford’s potential departure has already attracted interest from top clubs. However, questions remain about whether any team would match his current wages. Reports suggest United might consider a £40 million offer for the England international as Amorim looks to revamp his squad, with the team languishing in 13th place after a dismal season.
Addressing his decision to leave Rashford and Garnacho out of the Manchester City matchday squad, Amorim explained: “It was a selection decision. We evaluate everything—training, game performance, engagement with teammates, pushing each other. Everything is considered when we make these choices. It’s as simple as that. I’m not trying to send a message to the dressing room; it’s purely an evaluation, and they’re aware of it.”
