Two of the worst teams in the NBA this season — the Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards — have agreed in principle on a trade with one another.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Detroit Pistons will send former first-round pick Marvin Bagley, Isaiah Livers, and two second-round picks to the Washington Wizards in exchange for 16-year NBA veteran Danilo Gallinari and Mike Muscala.
Bagley, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, didn’t last an entire season with the Pistons, even after signing a three-year, $37.5 million contract last summer. Livers was Detroit’s second-round pick in the 2021 Draft, and he has spent a good chunk of time with the team’s G-League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise.
Detroit Pistons schedule: Monday (1/5) at Washington Wizards
Gallinari has played for seven teams and returned to the floor in 2023-24 after missing all of last season due to a second season-ending ACL tear. The New York Knicks made Gallinari the sixth pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, where he stayed for three seasons. The 6-foot-10 forward can stretch the floor from three and is considered a solid piece to any team he joins.
Muscala has been in the Association for 10 years and has had stops with the Hawks, 76ers, Lakers, Thunder, and Celtics.
The Wizards collect another pair of late-round picks as they rebuild their roster for future seasons. While the Detroit Pistons secure experienced players to help improve a roster that has been one of the youngest in the league in head coach Monty Williams’ first season with the franchise.
