Sam Williams, a second-year linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, had been more effective on special teams this season, but he was still making progress with his pass rush, earning a sack in a 33-10 victory over Carolina, for the third straight game.
Williams, though, continued to concentrate on the special teams error that preserved Carolina’s lone touchdown drive: just as Dallas was going to recover the ball on a punt with a 17-3 lead, the second-round pick was called for running into the kicker. The Panthers capitalized on the fourth down being shortened and went on to transform the revived drive into their only touchdown of the game.
“I left some plays out there,” Williams said of his performance. “I just got to keep going, get back in the lab, tweak some things, and just keep taking my opportunities that I have.”
