TRADE: As Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca gives Newcastle United optimism of a £30 million deal Paul Mitchell is on guard.

As the new year approaches and the January transfer window draws near, sporting director Paul Mitchell is carefully crafting his strategy to address the challenges posed by PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Regulations), which almost led to a points deduction for Newcastle United over the summer.

The Magpies faced a setback when Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh were sold to Nottingham Forest and Brighton, respectively—moves that frustrated manager Eddie Howe, who had hoped to retain both players.

Since Newcastle’s transformative takeover in October 2021, the club has been increasingly linked with top-tier talent. High-profile signings like Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali have turned some of these rumors into reality.

Now, another promising player has emerged as a potential target for Newcastle in the January transfer window. Keirnan Dewsbury-Hall, currently at Chelsea, is reportedly on the Magpies’ radar.

Dewsbury-Hall joined Chelsea last summer after helping Leicester City secure promotion but has struggled for consistent first-team opportunities under manager Enzo Maresca. The 26-year-old has logged only 55 minutes of Premier League action this season, with most of his appearances coming in the Europa Conference League.

Newcastle’s interest in the midfielder aligns with their recent recruitment strategy, which has included players like Lewis Hall and expressed interest in Noni Madueke over the summer. While a deal for Madueke did not materialize, the acquisition of Hall demonstrated Newcastle’s ability to attract talent from Chelsea.

When asked about Dewsbury-Hall’s future, Maresca admitted: “Unfortunately, I can’t say he won’t leave because anything can happen. I am not focused on January. We are very happy with his work and performances and don’t want him to leave. However, if a player feels unhappy and wants more game time, we won’t force them to stay. We’ll assess the situation in January.”

Dewsbury-Hall recently faced Newcastle in the Carabao Cup but was substituted in the 57th minute, leaving little impression on fans during the match.
