Kurtis Havenhand, a teenage striker, is the only post-deadline day addition made by Birmingham City.
Kurtis Havenhand, a striker, has officially joined Birmingham City. His contract is valid until the end of the current campaign, with an additional year’s option if all goes according to plan. The 19-year-old Havenhand, who most recently played for Sheffield United, is joining the Blues’ under-21 team for the season.
After playing in a number of teams across age groups and rising through the ranks at Bramall Lane, Havenhand’s growth was halted in 2023 by a devastating knee injury. Last summer, Havenhand earned his first professional deal with the Blades after recovering from it.
Prior to his injury, Havenhand proved that he knew where the back of the net is; in the 2022-23 season, he bagged 18 goals in 28 matches. Havenhand only returned to full fitness in October and hasn’t been able to force his way into the line-up of Sheffield United’s under-21s this season. The Blades currently lead the Professional Development League, with Blues near the foot of the table.
Blues conducted a topping up sort of transfer window as they look to press on with securing an immediate return to the Championship; they added experienced pair Grant Hanley and Kieran Dowell to help fill various gaps in the squad, while they also ensured that Phil Neumann would be arriving from Hannover 96 in the summer. Blues added left-back Lee Myung-jae on deadline day, before confirming Havenhand a day later.
Blues did allow existing academy products to leave the club; Alfie Chang left to join Walsall’s League Two promotion cause, while Romelle Donovan joined Premier League Brentford. Blues already have academy striker Junior Dixon out on loan at non-league Boreham Wood.
