While the Ravens have had a great season and are playing out of their minds right now, does history indicate failure this season?
There is no doubt that they are the best team in the AFC this season. The Baltimore Ravens are arguably the best team in the entire NFL heading into Wild Card Weekend. But coming off a 13-4 season, a No. 1 seed in the AFC and a first-round bye in the wild-card weekend, is John Harbaugh expected to disappoint this postseason? Deadspin says the Ravens can’t be trusted. I’m not so sure. The Ravens dominated good teams like Jacksonville, San Francisco and Miami as the regular season wound down. Yes, the loss to the Steelers in the season finale didn’t look good, but they were without MVP candidate Lamar Jackson and the rest of the roster. What does history tell us? Baltimore has just one postseason win since 2018, against the Titans in the 2020 Wild Card round. This is the only playoff win of Jackson’s career.Since beating the 49ers in the 2012 Super Bowl, the Ravens have had two postseason victories. What’s special this year? many. Harbaugh’s decision to play Jackson in a meaningless game in Week 18 may have been brilliant, but I generally disagree with that theory. Jackson may be an exception due to his injury history in recent seasons. A healthy Jackson is key to making the playoffs. The fact that the Ravens have home-field advantage heading into the Super Bowl also helps. Baltimore is 7-1 at M&T Bank Stadium this year. It’s “departure time” for Corbi. They have a week off with a bye game, but Harbaugh will certainly continue his intense workouts, but not too much. We won’t know until the divisional round if this week’s time off will hurt the team. Jackson is a legitimate MVP candidate and hopefully his regular season MVP performance will continue into the postseason. Now is the time for Baltimore to prove to the world that they deserve to compete for their third Super Bowl championship on June 24 with one of the league’s best organizations in the last 30 years.
