Owen Goodman, who is on loan from Crystal Palace, has been named to the EFL League Two Team of the Season in recognition of his exceptional play this season.
The player, who was born in London, is qualified to play for Nigeria, England, and Canada at the international level.
He was called up to a Flying Eagles training camp prior to the 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, indicating that the Nigeria Football Federation is interested in him as a player.
Despite having played for the youth teams of England and Canada, Goodman’s visit to Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau last summer stoked rumours that he has not ruled out playing for the Super Eagles.
Goodman now has an incredible 21 clean sheets for the 2024–2025 season, including 20 in League Two and one in the FA Cup, after keeping a clean sheet in AFC Wimbledon’s 0-0 draw with Chesterfield on April 18.
In the 2024–2025 season, the tri-national player has preserved more clean sheets than any other custodian in League Two, a distinction he shares with Matt Macey of Colchester United.
Only James Trafford of Burnley (33) and Illan Meslier of Leeds United (21) have kept more clean sheets than the Crystal Palace academy graduate in the top four divisions of English football.
During the 2022–2023 season, Goodman was called up four times for Premier League games but did not play as a substitute in games against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brighton & Hove, Arsenal, and Southampton.
