Arsenal could turn their attention to RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as doubts linger over pursuing Alexander Isak or Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners had previously shown interest in Sesko last summer, but the Slovenian forward opted to renew his contract with the Bundesliga club. At the time, the 21-year-old was reportedly hesitant to join Arsenal, fearing he might play a secondary role to Kai Havertz, given the German’s strong form at the end of the season.
While Arsenal have since been linked with Isak and Gyokeres, the Daily Mail reports that the club may not move forward with either option.
Manager Mikel Arteta’s side seems inclined to wait until the end of the season to invest in a marquee striker.
Gyokeres, who has been in sensational form for Sporting CP with 70 goals and 20 assists in 75 matches, is reportedly not a priority due to his age—he turns 27 in June. Similarly, Isak remains a long-term target, but Arsenal are cautious about his history of injuries and the potential risks posed by their high-intensity playing style.
Given these factors, Arsenal may rekindle their interest in Sesko next summer.
Sesko’s Potential Fit at Arsenal
Sesko, a product of RB Salzburg, enjoyed a strong debut season at Leipzig with 18 goals and two assists. This season, he has continued to shine with 10 goals and three assists so far.
At just 21, Sesko offers a blend of youth and potential, positioning him as a high-ceiling talent compared to Havertz, who is four years older. Both players share aerial prowess, but Sesko stands out with his relentless pressing and higher shot conversion rate (20% compared to Havertz’s 14%).
Sesko is also known for his powerful, versatile finishing, scoring confidently with either foot. Bundesliga.com has labeled him “exciting,” making him an attractive option for Arsenal’s long-term plans.
Currently valued at £41.5 million by Transfermarkt, Arsenal would likely need to pay a significantly higher fee to secure him. Leipzig’s decision to remove a £55 million release clause in Sesko’s renewed contract strengthens their position in negotiations.
Should Arsenal decide to pursue Sesko, he could prove to be an exceptional addition to their squad.
