Liverpool has been informed that acquiring Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion will require a significant financial investment, according to transfer expert Mike Brown.
The Brazilian forward has caught the attention of several top Premier League clubs after a strong start to the season, with four goals and three assists from eight Premier League appearances. Football Insider reports that Liverpool is interested in signing him, but Brighton is unlikely to sell cheaply and will demand a substantial fee.
Brown also suggests that while a move in January seems unlikely, a transfer could occur at the end of the season. He is uncertain whether Pedro would be the right fit for Liverpool, noting that the club’s scouts will need to make that evaluation.
It’s notoriously difficult to sign players from Brighton, who are known for setting high price tags on their top players to deter interest. Arsenal experienced this with Ben White, while Brighton earned over £110 million for Moisés Caicedo. Liverpool had previously pursued Pedro, but the player chose Chelsea over Anfield. The Reds did manage to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for a more reasonable fee due to a release clause.
Pedro, under contract at Brighton until 2028, is valued at around £41 million by Transfermarkt, giving Brighton leverage in negotiations.
