West Ham are facing difficulties this season, sitting 14th in the Premier League with 19 points from 16 matches, despite spending significantly in the summer transfer window.
Goal-scoring has been a concern for Julen Lopetegui’s team, with striker Niclas Füllkrug just returning from injury and other attacking players failing to impress.
The club is reportedly considering bolstering their attack in January, with Mainz’s Jonathan Burkardt among the players linked with a move.
Eintracht Frankfurt are also said to be interested in signing Burkardt, according to German publication Sport Bild (via Fussball Transfers).
Frankfurt may lose their in-form forward, Omar Marmoush, to other clubs, and are eyeing Burkardt as a potential replacement.
The Mainz forward is in exceptional form this season, having scored 10 goals in 14 league appearances.
Burkardt’s contract runs until June 2027, and it remains to be seen if West Ham will make an approach to secure his services in the upcoming transfer window.
