JUST IN: Chelsea is now “set to” sign a 24-year-old forward after receiving a late-night Romano update.

Two proposals were reportedly presented: one involving a loan with an obligation to buy for £25 million and another featuring a loan with an option to buy at a higher fee.

Just an hour before the 11 pm transfer deadline, Manchester United opted for the first deal, ensuring Jadon Sancho will officially join Chelsea next summer.

Why did Chelsea decide to sign Sancho?

Head coach Enzo Maresca played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s pursuit of the England international. Speaking about the potential signing a few days ago, the Italian remarked:
“If we can bring in a player who can help us, I’d certainly welcome that. Jadon isn’t our player. I know him well, but he’s not ours.”

Sancho, earning £250,000 per week, and Raheem Sterling, on £325,000 per week, both command high wages. If the club hadn’t managed to offload Sterling, financing a move for Sancho would have been more challenging.

At present, Sterling is expected to complete a loan move to Arsenal before the transfer window closes, as Maresca deemed him surplus to requirements. If Sterling had stayed, he would have been relegated to playing for the Under-21s.

With Sancho’s arrival, Maresca gains another attacking option on the flanks, joining a group that already includes Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, and Mykhailo Mudryk.
