Each NBA season, certain players become the focal point of trade rumors, with one eventually being traded. This year, Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler is the player at the center of speculation, having been linked to multiple teams, including the Golden State Warriors.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Warriors appear to have the best chance of acquiring Butler. Stein reports that, at present, Golden State is the only team showing genuine interest in the 35-year-old that could potentially lead to meaningful trade discussions. On the other hand, teams like Houston and Dallas haven’t demonstrated significant interest in pursuing Butler, while the Phoenix Suns could only make a feasible trade offer if the Heat were open to taking on Bradley Beal. Miami had reservations about Beal during the 2023 offseason and ultimately decided against pursuing a trade for him, partly due to Beal’s no-trade clause and his high salary.
The Warriors have been interested in Butler for some time, even reaching out to the Heat about him earlier this year before sending Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks, as reported by ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel. Now, with the opportunity to potentially acquire Butler, Golden State could strengthen its roster for a push in the Western Conference.
This development follows the Warriors’ recent acquisition of point guard Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for De’Anthony Melton and some second-round picks. Schroder adds another dependable ball handler to complement Stephen Curry, capable of running the offense and creating scoring opportunities when Curry is off the floor.
