TRANSFER NEWS: Man Utd desperate to sell Bruno Fernandes as Paul Pogba drops hint

With only a few weeks remaining until Manchester United can bolster their squad in the January transfer window, manager Ruben Amorim seems eager to bring in at least a couple of fresh faces.

The Portuguese coach has endured a rocky start, winning just three of his first six games in charge, and recent performances have exposed areas in need of reinforcement. Successive defeats to Arsenal (2-0) and Nottingham Forest (3-2) have highlighted weaknesses, while a narrow 2-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen offered little respite.

Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag earlier this year, has implemented a 3-4-3 formation but will be looking to sign players better suited to his tactical system before a challenging upcoming fixture against Manchester City. Below, Mirror Football outlines the latest Manchester United transfer developments.

Bruno Fernandes’ future in question

Bruno Fernandes has been a standout performer in an otherwise challenging season for United, contributing five goals and nine assists while frequently stepping up in crucial moments. Despite signing a contract extension in the summer, speculation about his future persists, with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher suggesting it might be time to consider selling the 30-year-old.

Writing in his Telegraph column, Carragher noted:
“Fernandes has been one of United’s best players in tough times, but at 30, there may be value in selling him to generate funds. While he’s a great talent, he can lack discipline both on and off the ball, which makes it harder for United to maintain a compact defensive shape. His commitment might please fans, but it’s likely frustrating for the manager.”

Southampton dismisses United’s interest in Tyler Dibling

Southampton’s young star Tyler Dibling has been turning heads with his impressive displays, sparking rumors of a potential £21m bid from Manchester United. However, Saints boss Russell Martin dismissed the speculation with a dose of humor, claiming £21m wouldn’t even buy the winger’s “left foot.”

“We’ve offered him a very good contract for someone his age,” Martin explained. “While there’s some disagreement with his agent, Tyler and his parents seem keen to finalize the deal. For now, we’re focused on rewarding him for his performances rather than simply extending his current agreement.”

Pogba hints at his next move

Reports continue to link Paul Pogba with a possible return to Manchester United as he nears the end of his doping suspension, which has been reduced to 18 months. Pogba, who left Juventus and previously rejoined United for a then-record £89m in 2016, failed to deliver on the high expectations placed upon him.

While former United striker Louis Saha has publicly backed the idea of Pogba returning to Old Trafford, the French midfielder himself recently dropped hints about his future, sparking fresh speculation over where he might land next.
