Liverpool transfer news as Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘rejects offers’ amid Viktor Gyokeres blow

The January transfer window is fast approaching as we near the end of 2024 – although the turn of the year might not be too welcome for Liverpool.
Despite the encouraging start made by Arne Slot this season, there are some major issues that still need to be sorted out. The futures of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah remain unresolved, with all three set to be out of contract at the end of the season.

What’s more, the speculation of a move to Real Madrid seems to be growing in Alexander-Arnold’s case, and the latest reports from Spain suggest Liverpool may have already failed in its attempts to tie him down to a new deal.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including the latest on Alexander-Arnold, as well as a blow in the race for Viktor Gyokeres.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Trent Alexander-Arnold has rejected ‘several’ offers to renew his contract at Liverpool, according to Spanish outlet Sport. The right-back’s current deal of course expires at the end of the season, and fears are growing that he could be heading to Real Madrid next summer.

Sport claims that Alexander-Arnold has made his intention to leave Anfield clear, and it’s not just Los Blancos making a play for his signature. Paris Saint-Germain is also said to have joined the race – the 26-year-old will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January unless he signs a new deal at Liverpool before then.

Liverpool has been linked with a move for the former Coventry City star, with Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg even suggesting he could move for a cut-price €60-70m [$65m/£50m – $76m/£58m], despite having a release clause of €100m [$108m/£83m]. With Amorim looking poised to become the new manager at Old Trafford though, United could hold an advantage, with Gyokeres said to be a huge fan of the 39-year-old.
