New York Knicks player O.G. Anunabi will miss Game 6 on Feb. 8 against the Dallas Mavericks. February 8 is a big day in the NBA. Because it’s the last day teams can make trades. New York is expected to challenge for the title by adding another player before the deadline.
But the news of Anunoby’s injury is disappointing. According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, what was once classified as elbow inflammation has now turned into bone inflammation. Katz said of the injury:”OG Anunoby is listed as OUT tomorrow and the injury report changes his injury from elbow inflammation to bone inflammation.
“Katz wrote this more detailed report on the injuries. The Knicks have listed Anunoby as day-to-day, but this will be his sixth game. Please allow at least 14 days between matches. Tom Thibodeau asked eight questions about Anunoby’s injury/status yesterday, but didn’t elaborate.Should the Knicks be worried about OG Anunoby?
If you’re the New York Knicks, you don’t have time to push Anunoby’s panic button. Injuries are never a good thing, but they provide an opportunity to rest before the All-Star break. With a 33-18 record and just 0.5 games out of the No. 2 in the Eastern Conference, the Knicks have the luxury of sitting back and giving him time to get healthy.
Katz reported what coach Tom Thibodeau said before the Knicks’ Feb. 7 game against the Memphis Grizzlies. In typical Thibodeau fashion, he didn’t say much to the media. “I’m not completely sure. It hurt a little at first. So this time of year, most guys do something after their 50th game. Now there is something for everyone.”The injury report should have an idea of what he was doing before the break, along with any injury name changes. If an ongoing injury could keep him out for the next few weeks, the Knicks will need to have a backup plan.
That’s because Julius Randle also had a shoulder injury. The New York Knicks still have room for improvementIf the Knicks want to be the team they want to be this season, it all comes down to one last chance to improve on February 8th.
There is a buyout option, but these players are usually mid-level players and don’t always make an impact on the championship roster.Injuries to Anunoby and Randle could leave the Knicks offense short. SNY’s Ian Begley reports that the Toronto Raptors are looking to trade Bruce Brown for another player and the Knicks are showing interest.
“On iteration and discussion I was told that Toronto included Chris Boucher in the Bruce Brown package. I don’t know what the Knicks thought about that,” Begley said on The Putback on Feb. 7.The addition of Chris Boucher would give more flexibility to the front four. Brown and Boucher have different skill sets than Anunabi and Randle, but could be useful as they deal with injuries.
