The Cleveland Browns acquired their latest wide receiver in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys, and GM Andrew Berry could make it two for two with flamboyant owner Jerry Jones.Deshaun Watson recently went on the show to sign free agent Tee Higgins from the AFC North division rival Cincinnati Bengals.
That move has little chance of success and could depend on whether the QB agrees to take a pay cut, but a deal that would help the Cowboys get money off the books seems more likely.Bleacher Report’s NFL research department put together a trade guide for Cleveland and Dallas on Monday, Jan. 29, highlighting wide receiver Brandin Cooks as the Cowboys’ top trade asset and one of the Browns’ top trade targets. As a bonus, the deal reunites Watson and Cooks, who had a very productive year together as members of the Houston Texans in 2020. BR trades Cook to the Browns for two 2024 5th round picks (No. 134). Total) and 2025 Dallas could save $8 million by trading Sheff after June 1, 2024, and another $2 million by waiting until the summer of 2025 to make the move.
There’s no need to rush Cleveland, as the franchise could easily be waiting for history to repeat itself. “The Dallas Cowboys need to clear cap space and can do so by trading one of their wide receivers in the secondary,” BR wrote on Monday. “The Cowboys signed Amari Cooper to take over CD Lamb’s No. 1 role two years ago and are now eligible to extend Lamb.”It was the Browns who benefited from Jones’ decision to deal Cooper. Berry owns the team’s first No. 1 wide receivers with a 2022 fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick.Cooper then led the Browns for two straight seasons and earned his fifth career Pro Bowl berth in 2023 after recording 72 catches for 1,250 yards and five TDs, according to Pro Football Reference. Interestingly, BR listed Cooper as one of Brown’s top candidates for the 2024 offseason.
Breaking: Browns Set to Hire Former Quarterback as New Offensive Coordinator…..
The massive spending was due to loan money in the final year of his $100 million contract. June. Cooperations were invaluable for browns. Thus, his actions are unlikely. But extending the 29-year-old receiver makes sense, allowing Cleveland to push some of that spending into the future while keeping the team’s best pass rusher for whatever remains of the draft period.Cooks would be a perfect addition to the identity the Browns are trying to develop on offense as they compete not only to return to the playoffs, but also for the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance.
Cleveland wants to pass the ball more often and push those passes down the field. The team had success with that style under Joe Flacco for the final third of the 2023 season, and that success could be replicated after Watson returns from season-ending shoulder surgery last November. The chef can certainly help you. The 10-year NFL veteran has six 1,000-plus seasons on his resume and has caught 57 career TD passes.
He had 81 catches for 1,150 yards and eight TDs in 2020 with Watson as QB. Watson led the league in rushing this season with 4,823 yards and three consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns. Before making any major trades, the Browns must address the unfortunate reality of their salary cap with Watson’s $230 million albatross contract that runs through 2026. On Cleveland’s books, the 2024 franchise is worth $20.5 million of dollars starting on Monday. Even if Berry and company can hold onto Cooks for reasonable trade value, his contract won’t come cheap. The wideout is entering the final season of a two-year, $39.8 million contract that will hit $10 million in 2024.
