The New York Yankees already have made a handful of major moves this offseason. Why not make another? New York has significantly improved the club overall on paper but still has some work to do.
The Yankees could use another starting pitcher and luckily, there still are some available. The Yankees recently landed All-Star Marcus Stroman, but could still use another hurler. New York already is better but has work to do if it wants to compete with a club like the Los Angeles Dodgers
Los Angeles certainly is the heavy favorite to take home the 2024 World Series title, but New York wouldn’t be too far away if it could land another frontline starter. Two players who still could be an option for the Yankees are Dylan Cease and Blake Snell, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman. “Remember when Hal Steinbrenner used to say you didn’t need to have a $200 million payroll to win and morphed his statement to $300 million,” Sherman said. “Well, he has exceeded it anyway, and I do not think the Yankees are done at roughly $305 million.
“I believe they will continue to monitor the markets for pitchers such as Dylan Cease (trade) and Blake Snell (free agent) to see if they drop to a more comfortable level. I think they will add at least one reliever.” New York has been linked to both Cease and Snell this offseason but some speculated that landing Stroman would take the Yankees off the market. It sounds like that may not be the case. The Chicago White Sox have been asking for the moon for Cease, but if their asking price comes down then New York could swoop in. Snell is looking for a massive contract in free agency but hasn’t been able to get it yet. New York recently offered him a contract but things didn’t work out. Maybe the two sides could come back together to discuss a move. New York already has improved the club but still could use one more big move.
