Despite saying there is still plenty to accomplish, Erol Bulut is pleased with Cardiff City’s start to the Championship season.
In just 10 games, Bulut has transformed the Bluebirds from relegation survivors to play-off challengers.
It stands in sharp contrast to Cardiff’s recent managerial history.
Last season, Steve Morrison was fired after the same number of games, while Mick McCarthy was fired the year before in October 2021 after a 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough.
Bulut recently lost to the same opponents by the same score, but he has not only persevered but also given a club that has been plagued by turmoil fresh hope.
A three window transfer embargo, to be removed by Fifa in January, which prevents them from paying fees for players, is the reason Cardiff were only able to bolster their team with free moves and loans this summer. Bulut’s first three league games were lost due to late goals, but they have subsequently won five of their past seven games, including the south Wales derby against Swansea. “I think we can be satisfied – for now,” said Bulut, “when you look at the problems we had at the start of the season, with the transfers [embargo] and the early games.” “We have made progress, but we still have goals, therefore we must work hard to move forward in a constructive manner.
