That’s especially true of star forward Jimmy Butler, who left the Miami Heat’s game against Utah on the second night of the team’s five-game road trip. Butler sprained his right foot, his first in four games with a left calf injury.The injury isn’t serious, but the Heat handled it that way. At least they’re taking into account that Butler is 34 years old and playing in early January would give him valuable rest time that could pay off later in the year.According to The Athletic’s NBA insider Shams Charania on the Run it Back podcast, he says Butler’s age is one of the reasons the Heat are being so cautious with his injuries and bruises. “Jimmy Butler needs some time here. He injured the calf of the other leg and currently has problems with the other leg. I forgot how Jimmy Butler built his career. I am a 30 year old man. “He played at a high level in his prime and I think that lasted a long time.”The Miami Heat are unclear on Jimmy Butler’s timelineMiami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra remained tight-lipped about Butler’s injury.Asked if the injury itself occurred during the game, Butler left the Utah game. “Yes, I was in that department. He went to the right. It is what it is,” Spoelstra said. Spoelstra was also asked about his next steps. “I had an X-ray after the game and it was clean. We’ll deal with it,” he said. Charania noted that the Miami Heat have had some success without Butler, which has helped ease the pressure on his recovery. They went 6-4, slightly better than last year’s 9-9 without Butler. But they’ve won five of their last six games without Butler.They will take care of him,” Charania said. “Think about this team this year. This year they won six of 10 games without Jimmy Butler, and last year they went 9-9 without him. “When he’s not on the floor, they’re playing at a much higher level, which bodes well for them in the second half of the season and the playoffs.”Erik Spoelstra is concerned about injuries.Heading into the final game of the road trip, the Heat were 20-14, in fourth place in the Eastern Conference and 4.0 games behind second-place Milwaukee. Butler is not the only injury for Spoelstra and the Miami Heat. Haywood Highsmith is out with a concussion and Caleb Martin, who has played in just 20 games this year, is out with an ankle injury. “Now it’s all in our hands,” Spoelstra said.
