BBC REPORT: Yankees Currently Pursuing Reunion With Former Slugger After Strong Season….

There could be a reunion in New York this offseason. New York has been busy so far this season, but still has a lot of work to do.

The Yankees needed to improve the outfield and they already have. New York still needs to add to the rotation, add a bullpen arm or two, and it wouldn’t hurt to add another utility man. According to The Athletic’s Will Sammon, a player who makes sense for the Yankees and New York has expressed interest in veteran Gio Urshela. “So someone like Gio Urshela might fit the profile,” Sammon said. “Urshela has attracted interest from the New York Mets and New York Yankees, among others, league sources said.” Urshela began his big league career with the Cleveland Guardians in 2015 and eventually joined the New York Yankees in 2019 after a stint with the Toronto Blue Jays. Urshela spent three seasons with the Yankees and was certainly impressive. The utility man had perhaps the best season of his career in 2019 as a member of the Yankees, hitting 21 home runs, driving in 74 runs and slashing .314/.355/.534 in 132 games played.Urshela spent the 2023 season with the Los Angeles Angels, but only played in 62 games at the big league level. While the sample size was small, Urshela was solid with two home runs, 24 RBIs and a .299/.329/.374 slash line. The Yankees could use another veteran and bringing Urshela back could definitely help.
