Cleveland Browns Elevate 3 Safety powerful players from the Practice Squad…

BEREA, Ohio – The Cleveland Browns will be without four defensive players, including two starters, for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

In response, the Browns named two practice squad defensive players to the active roster.Linebacker Charlie Thomas and safety Tanner McCalister were recalled from the practice squad for Sunday’s game. Both are undrafted free agent rookies. Thomas has one tackle on special teams this season. McCalister (5-11, 191) is an undrafted rookie out of Ohio State. He spent the entire season on the Browns’ practice squad and appeared in one game. McCalister will wear number 48. Thomas (6-3, 216) is a freshman at Georgia Tech. Originally signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent, he spent the entire season on the Browns’ practice squad and appeared in two games. Thomas will wear number 35.Both players were recalled for last week’s game against the Bears and both played in the 20-17 victory.Linebackers Anthony Walker (knee) and Jordan Kunaszyk were both out for Sunday’s game, while safety Juan Thornhill (safety) was also out. Defensive player Ogbonnia Okoronkwo is also out with a chest injury. NFL teams can add up to 55 players to their roster in a week by naming one or two players from their practice squad before the pregame trade deadline. The rule allows teams to have a larger pool from which to select their 47 or 48 active players on game day. Any player removed from the training group for this purpose will immediately return to his team’s training group the day after the match.
