Nottingham Forest manager Julen Lopetegui says he has already turned down offers from around the world.
The Reds are currently debating whether or not to sack Steve Cooper. Lopetegui took charge of Wolves when they were bottom of the Premier League last season. He galloped with them to safety, but then decided to abandon his position on the eve of the new campaign. He is now ready to return to work and currently lives in Wolverhampton. However, he won’t just get the first job available and that might not be good news for Forest if they like Lopetegui. The 57-year-old coached Real Madrid, the Spanish national team, and won the Europa League with Sevilla. It would be a strong nomination, but he will choose his next role carefully. Lopetegui has been linked with a move to Forest, with Evangelos Marinakis said to be a big fan of the manager. However, it looks like he will take his time. He told Sky Sports News: “I have received several offers from different countries and for various reasons I prefer to wait for the right moment. “I believe this is the right situation and in football we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. “It’s true that I said no to some different offers in different countries. I prefer to wait for the moment that seems appropriate to me. I want to stay here and we want to realize our dreams and goals here. The way people follow football here is something special. » The Spanish manager is a born winner and his starring role at Wolves last season would make him perfect for Forest. However, it seems that he has other ideas. Lopetegui is a solid manager and many at Forest would see him as an upgrade to Cooper if he were to leave. The same cannot be said for Nuno Espirito Santo, who has been tied up for 24 hours. It’s no surprise that Lopetegui looks forward to his next managerial job. He will think that his CV should get him an important job and perhaps he sees the Forest as a small job. Given the fans’ reaction to the Espirito Santo links, forestry owner Marinakis may consider paying a final visit to Lopetegui in the coming days.
