It seems like the Miami Heat are in the middle of the rumor mill every time a rumor circulates that a star player might be available in the NBA.
With that in mind, the Heat could have their eye on Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam, according to Eric Koreen of The Athletic.Following the Raptors’ loss to the New York Knicks last night, the team’s record drops to 9-14, which currently places them in 11th place in the Eastern Conference. As the team slowly fades, Koreen points out that the Raptors could become sellers before this season’s trade deadline.With Siakam in the final year of his contract, the Raptors could consider trading the All-Star in hopes of recouping value and speeding up their rebuilding process. Koreen notes that the Heat could explore the possibility of acquiring Siakam via trade, although it’s not the easiest solution on the court given their current roster construction.“I’m sure the Miami [Heat] will blow the tires even if it’s not the cleanest fit,” Koreen wrote.After reaching and failing to make the NBA Finals last season, the Heat could look to pull off a blockbuster trade this season in hopes of overcoming the obstacle. A trio of Siakam, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo would be among the best in the NBA.Another aspect of this situation is Siakam’s contract expiring and the question of whether he would re-sign if traded to the Heat. Miami has become a major destination for professional athletes thanks to its great weather and the state of Florida not having an income tax, so it would be a bit of a shock if Siakam didn’t want to sign an extension with the Heat.
