According to Basketball News’ Tommy Beer, the New York Knicks will most likely play without starting point guard Jalen Brunson against the Toronto Raptors on Monday.
“The Knicks list Jalen Brunson (left ankle sprain) as questionable for Monday’s game vs. Toronto,” Beer tweeted Sunday.Jalen Brunson injured his ankle last weekend during the Knicks’ 133-123 loss to the Boston Celtics. Brunson tied RJ Barrett with a team-high 23 points before suffering an injury. New York was unable to contain Derrick White, who finished with 30 points. Big man Kristaps Porzingis scored 21 points Saturday in his return from injury. The Knicks point guard injured his ankle during garbage time. He caught an inbounds pass from Julius Randle before his feet tangled with those of Celtics guard Payton Prichard. Brunson’s appearance in court during garbage hour sparked outrage among the New York faithful. Fans harshly criticized Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau for bringing Jalen Brunson into the game even though the outcome was out of reach. However, he remained unfazed and said he had no regrets about leaving his left point guard on the field. The Knicks were hot and cold before their showdown against the Raptors on Monday.New York won three straight games before losing its next two games and falling to 12-9 on the season.
