In 2011, Diego Fagundez made history as the first homegrown player to score for the New England Revolution — at just 16 years old. At the time, MLS was still evolving its academy system, and Fagundez quickly became a symbol of what the league could produce.
Fast forward more than a decade, and Fagundez’s journey has come full circle. After over 250 appearances with New England, he moved to Austin FC in 2021, where he became one of the club’s foundational players. His attacking flair and leadership helped push the second-year expansion side into the 2022 Western Conference Final — an unprecedented achievement for such a young team.
Now with LA Galaxy in 2024, Fagundez has embraced a leadership role, mentoring younger players while continuing to contribute with goals and assists. Despite never becoming the global superstar some predicted, his MLS career is one of quiet success — a steady, long-lasting impact player who grew with the league and is now helping shape its next generation.
