The Chicago Bulls lost to the Miami Heat 118-100 on Monday night at the United Center, only a few nights after pulling off their biggest victory of the season. The club’s record fell to 5-10 for the season after their sixth straight defeat at home.
The Bulls didn’t start the first quarter down 21 points like they did on Saturday night, but they still trailed from the opening tip to the final buzzer, failing to take the lead once.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Chicago was still within striking distance, behind by just twelve, 93-81. But unlike the game on Saturday night, when they rallied for a 102-97 victory, Miami held their ground and opened the fourth quarter with a 13-5 run to increase their advantage to 20, 106-86, with 7:51 remaining.
Jaime Jaquez Jr., a rookie sensation, scored buckets after bucket to give the Heat a 24-point lead (118-94). Miami’s dominance in the penultimate quarter prevented star winger Jimmy Butler from playing in the fourth.
Heat big man Bam Adebayo had 23 points and 11 boards, while Butler, who starred for the Bulls for six seasons, had 16 points. Duncan Robinson continued his torrid shooting and had 22 points, highlighted by six three-pointers. Jaquez Jr. added 19 markers.
Chicago’s awful trend of bad starts continued on Monday night as they trailed by 10, 12-2, less than three minutes into the game. Overall, there weren’t many positives from the game except for one, which LaVine pointed out.
