Leeds United attacker Sonny Perkins’ loan spell at Oxford United continues to go from bad to worse.
Perkins was left out of Oxford’s squad for the eighth consecutive league match on Tuesday despite no reports of an injury problems for the Leeds youngster
Oxford cemented their position in second place in League One last night as they defeated Lincoln City 2-0 on the road, but Perkins will be growing frustrated at his lack of involvement so far.
Perkins has played just three minutes of league football since his season-long-loan switch in the summer, with his last cameo appearance coming in mid-September during a 3-0 win at Fleetwood Town.
This loan move was set to provide Perkins with the first taste of regular men’s football of his career, but there just appears to be no sign of him doing enough to break into Liam Manning’s plans anytime soon.

Manning spoke last month about what Perkins had to do give himself a chance of playing, citing a consistent improvement on the training pitch as the main reason.
While admitting that Perkins had started to get better in that regard, he is still clearly not doing enough based on the fact he is still not getting a look in.
It is a shame to see Perkins’ spell panning out as it is, as there is no doubt the 19-year-old looked like a talented player whenever he was handed an opportunity at Leeds.
Ability wise, he is definitely good enough to be playing a part in Oxford’s push for promotion to the Championship, but clearly it behind-the-scenes where Perkins needs to work on.
If this loan spell continues as it has started, Leeds will surely have to look at recalling him in January and sending him elsewhere, as another half season in the U21s will do him no good.
