Liverpool has been concentrating on re-building their midfield over the past few months after five senior players were either transferred or dismissed from Anfield.
The Reds signed a potent quartet of new players, including Dominik Szoboszlai, who has already won over the support of the crowd.
Wataru End, Fabinho’s immediate successor, is not yet progressing at the same rate as his fellow newcomers Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister. The former Southampton star Roméo Lavia was signed by the club, but Liverpool failed miserably in their attempts to sign him. For weeks, if not months, Jurgen Klopp and company had been keeping an eye on him, and Anfield appeared to be the only place the midfielder belonged.
After their failed attempt to hijack the Moisés Caicedo to Chelsea trade, everything fell apart. Not only did the Ecuadorian reject the Reds in favor of a move to Chelsea, but Lavia also made up his mind that he preferred Stamford Bridge. It was a rather unpleasant encounter, especially since Liverpool unexpectedly offered Caicedo a record £111 million, which is wildly out of character for the frequently cautious Reds.
