While Liverpool’s attention is beginning to drift to other parts of their team, one eye remains on their midfield predicament.
Following the summer departure, Jurgen Klopp bought four new players for his engine room, but replacing Fabinho has proven to be more difficult than anticipated.
After passing up the chance to sign long-term summer target Roméo Lavia from Southampton, the Reds were forced to scurry for a replacement No.6. Liverpool were able to sign Wataru End, although he has yet to establish himself as a clear Klopp option.
This season, the Japanese international has made five Premier League appearances but has only started one of them. For the time being, Alexis MacAllister has been stepping in, but new names are on the radar, and Liverpool could make a move in January.
André of Fluminense is one name that has remained on the radar. The Reds were interested in signing him during the summer, but the Brazilian club stated that he was not for sale because he was needed for their run in the Copa Libertadores, which they have now reached the final of.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on André and feels that, while he may go in the new year, Fluminense may choose to bargain.
“I believe he has a chance to move in 2024,” Romano wrote for The Daily Briefing (via FootballTalk). “It won’t be easy because they are always aggressive in negotiations.” André, on the other hand, is completely prepared for the next stage – he’s highly talented and has a fantastic mentality.”
André’s current contract expires in 2026, and new rumors indicate he has a £30 million asking price, which has piqued the interest of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Arsenal. If both parties are still interested in bringing him to England, a bidding war might break out in January.
