After Sheikh Jassim dropped out of the running, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is likely to take a minority stake in Manchester United.
Officials at Manchester United are hoping that they have done enough to persuade Sir Jim Ratcliffe that they have a future at Old Trafford if the billionaire’s ambition for a stake in the club is successful.
Ratcliffe’s offer for approximately 25% of United is expected to come with a big say in the club’s sporting activities, which might imply a stressful wait for certain staff to learn whether they have a future in the new regime.
Taboola United hired John Murtough as their first football director in March 2021, and Andy O’Boyle has since been designated deputy football director, with Darren Fletcher serving as technical director. Murtough has taken on a more prominent position since the appointment of Richard Arnold as CEO, and he has been instrumental in the £400 million spent on transfers since the arrival of Erik ten Hag.
Ratcliffe and INEOS’ sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford visited Old Trafford and Carrington in March as part of the buyout process, as did representatives from the Qatari bid led by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani.
