Darren Davies, a former Forest Green Rovers defender, has joined Cardiff City as their new individual development coach.
The 45-year-old’s role is to develop players and bridge the gap between the Championship club’s academy and first team, with the goal of promoting more players to the senior squad.
Taboola Davies, from Port Talbot, played for Rovers from 2004 to 2006, under managers Tim Harris, Alan Lewer, and Gary Owers, during the Nailsworth club’s time in the top level of non-league football. He has also played for Barry Town, Greenock Morton, Stirling Albion, Dover Athletic, Tiverton Town, and Merthyr Tydfil.
His playing career ended in Australia, where he went on to become a well-known coach.
Davies began his career in the youth department of Melbourne Victory, when he worked under current Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglu.
He made such an impression that he was added to Postecoglu’s coaching team when he was appointed coach of Australia.
