Manchester United’s injury to Casemiro could be a blessing in disguise.

Man Utd midfielder Casemiro picked up a knock to the ankle while playing for Brazil and is a doubt for the weekend’s game.

Another injury is the last thing Manchester United needs right now.

Though there is plenty of blame to go around for the awful start to the new season, it cannot be overstated how significant the impact of so many significant injuries may be. Erik ten Hag has seen his whole first-choice back four ravaged, and while Jadon Sancho and Antony’s off-field concerns haven’t helped matters, the manager has frequently been missing up to 12 players for games.

Any club in the world, regardless of how much money they’ve spent, would suffer under such pressure, and United are no exception. So it appears that the gods are being especially cruel when Casemiro becomes the next casualty to hobble off the field while on international duty.

However, in the case of the Brazilian, his absence for a match or two may potentially benefit United. Injury should never be wished upon any player, and it’s unfortunate that a knock could be the cause, but Casemiro needed to be dropped from Manchester United’s starting lineup. Almost no player has emerged from the first quarter of the season with any credit, but the experienced midfielder in particular has seen his levels fall.
