Newcastle Make First Move for Champions League Winner in Potential £61m Deal

Newcastle United have entered the race to sign a Champions League winner, making initial contact as several Premier League sides also monitor the situation. It has been a difficult campaign for the Magpies, marked by transfer window disruption and inconsistent performances from their revamped attacking line.

A key figure in that new-look frontline has been Nick Woltemade. The German forward arrived on Tyneside for a club-record £69m but has struggled to sustain the strong form he showed early in his Newcastle career.

According to Caught Offside, Newcastle have now made informal enquiries about signing Paris Saint-Germain youngster Senny Mayulu, exploring the possibility of a summer move for the highly rated midfielder.

Woltemade’s inconsistent displays have created a tactical dilemma for manager Eddie Howe, who has recently deployed the forward in midfield roles, fuelling suggestions that the Newcastle boss is still searching for the best way to utilise his expensive signing.

Club legend Alan Shearer criticised Woltemade following another difficult outing in defeat to Everton, pointing to the striker’s underwhelming statistics while also stressing that improvement is needed across the team. Shearer noted that Howe faces a real challenge in figuring out how to get the most from the former Stuttgart player.

With attacking reinforcements likely to be a priority this summer, Newcastle could turn to Mayulu to provide fresh creativity. The PSG midfielder has yet to agree a contract extension in France, and with his current deal running until 2027, reports suggest the French champions could consider offers worth around €70m (£61m) if negotiations stall.

Interest in Mayulu is understandable given his rapid rise and Champions League success. Talent scout Jacek Kulig previously described the youngster as “amazing,” and he has continued to impress this season, contributing four goals and five assists across all competitions.
