Tension sparks as HC clears over young Star On Loan From Stoke City

The Burton-born forward arrived at Stoke with a strong reputation and made his senior debut at just 16, three years ago.

He first appeared for the Potters in January 2022, featuring in an FA Cup match against Leyton Orient, but has only gone on to make 23 first-team appearances for the Championship club.

During the second half of the 2023/24 season, Tezgel spent time on loan at Milton Keynes Dons, scoring three goals and assisting three more in 17 matches.

Unable to secure a regular place at Stoke, he was sent out again in the summer, this time to League Two side Crewe Alexandra. The 20-year-old initially struggled for minutes but has now played the full 90 in each of the last five league games, directly contributing to five goals, including a hat-trick.

Over the weekend, he was on the scoresheet again in a frantic 3-3 draw with Chesterfield, earning praise from manager Lee Bell for his work rate. The Crewe boss said Tezgel pushed himself to the limit, something he believes only happens when a player is fully committed.

“He was outstanding, and you could see from his reaction that he is fully bought into what we are doing,” Bell told the club’s media. “He is really invested in this group. The defender does well to make the chance more difficult, but Tezgel was fantastic today. If you’re not committed, you don’t run yourself into the ground like that.”

Bell has been full of admiration for the youngster in recent weeks, having praised his striker’s instincts after his hat-trick against Grimsby Town late last month.

Stoke have shown their faith in the former England youth international by offering him a new deal over the summer, at a time when Leeds United were trying to bring him in.
