Police close road as part of investigation into crash that killed woman

A 61-year-old woman has been killed in a crash with a van in Aberdeenshire.

The woman died at the scene of the incident at about 17:00 on Tuesday, on the A98 near Craigmaud.

She was driving an Audi Q5 automobile that collided with a Ford Transit van. The three men in the van were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The road was closed for ten hours to allow investigators to examine the area.

Anyone with knowledge was urged to get in touch with Police Scotland.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who tragically lost her life in this collision,” stated Sgt. Dave Cooper.

“Our inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.”

The A96 was partially closed on Friday as part of an investigation into a crash which left a man dead last month. Gordon Smith, a 76-year-old pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash involving a blue Ford Fiesta on the A96 near Colpy on February 21. The driver of the car, a 26-year-old woman, was uninjured. Officers returned to the scene of the incident on Friday to carry out further enquiries.

The A96 was shut between Kellockbank and Culsalmond and reopened after one hour. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “This relates to ongoing enquiries in respect of a fatal road crash on the A96 near Colpy on Friday, February 21, 2025.”
