Morecambe massage to fans after a wonderful win over Cheltenham Town

For the first time this season, Morecambe achieved back-to-back league victories to keep their prospects of remaining in the EFL alive.
Ged Garner and the highly effective Lee Angol scored goals in the second half to give the Shrimps a resounding victory at Mazuma Mobile Stadium on Tuesday night.

Additionally, it kept third-bottom Tranmere Rovers under pressure after they suffered a defeat at Harrogate Town, putting them four points clear of Morecambe with six games left.

Shortly after coming off the bench, Garner gave the Shrimps the lead on minute 66 when Robins defender Sam Stubbs was caught off guard by a long clearance from Morecambe keeper Harry Burgoyne.

His header attempt went awry, and the ball dropped to Garner, who finished coolly to put the ball past Joe Day from eight yards out with a right-footed drive.
Nine minutes later, Morecambe exploited another defensive blunder by Cheltenham to increase their lead.

Ibrahim Bakare, a former Morecambe Academy defender, was unable to handle a pass back, and Angol had a clear run on goal as the ball slid under his feet.

The striker defeated Day and scored his fifth goal in six games with a fantastic finish.

Day made a great save on Rhys Williams’ close-range header that nearly gave them a third goal.

In a rare second-half assault by the visitors, Matty Taylor came close to giving the Robins a response with a shot from the edge of the box that Burgoyne turned over.

There were not many chances in the first half, as Morecambe defender David Tutonda missed two shots.

When Angol headed a cross from Andy Dallas onto the top of the net in the 43rd minute, he also came very close to ending the draw.

After a fantastic first touch, Arkell Jude-Boyd responded for the visitors with a clean volley from eight yards out that went just over the bar.
