BREAKING NEWS: Bruins defenseman ruled out for rest of season for Serious health reasons

BOSTON — The Bruins continue to struggle with keeping their defensemen healthy.

Rookie Michael Callahan was forced to exit early in the second period after being struck in the face by a high Rangers’ clearing attempt. With blood visible on his lips, he skated to the bench before heading down the tunnel to the dressing room.

The injury occurred just one game after Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo returned to the lineup. Callahan did not return for the third period, leaving the Bruins with only five defensemen for more than half the game.

Before the injury, Callahan had logged 11 shifts totaling 5 minutes and 49 seconds of ice time. The Franklin native was playing in his fifth NHL game and his first against the Rangers, led by fellow Franklin native Peter Laviolette.
