BREAKING: New York Mets All-Star makes decision To Retire

Former Los Angeles Dodgers slugger J.D. Martinez has been a consistent offensive force throughout his career. The six-time All-Star played a key role in the New York Mets’ clubhouse chemistry during the 2024 season and had an outstanding 2023 campaign with the Dodgers, where he belted 33 home runs, drove in 104 runs, posted a .572 slugging percentage, and earned an All-Star selection. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Martinez has no plans to retire and intends to play in 2025.

He found himself in a similar situation last year as spring training neared but is expected to sign with a team soon. Though his production dipped in 2024, he still contributed 16 home runs and recorded a 106 OPS+ over 120 games. The 14-year MLB veteran has previously played for the Dodgers, Red Sox, Tigers, Astros, and Mets. While his next destination remains uncertain, he will likely join a team still in need of a designated hitter.

Martinez was a fan favorite in Los Angeles, frequently providing a spark to the Dodgers’ offense. He was also one of the few bright spots in the team’s 2023 NLDS matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Heading into 2025, he is likely seeking a one-year deal with a team that could benefit from his veteran leadership.
