BREAKING NEWS: ASU Running Back Makes Bold Decision Ahead of Transfer Tracker in team favor

Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo emerged as one of college football’s most talked-about players this season. He led the Sun Devils to a shocking Big 12 Championship run and nearly powered them to a win over Texas in the College Football Playoff, single-handedly bringing Arizona State back into contention before Texas ultimately secured the victory.

Each offseason, top college football upperclassmen prepare for the NFL Draft by participating in showcase events, with the Reese’s Senior Bowl being one of the most prestigious. Despite receiving an invitation, Skattebo chose not to participate.

A key factor in Skattebo’s breakout season was his unwavering self-belief. Late in the regular season, he boldly declared himself “the best running back in the country.” While he had a standout year, it’s difficult to argue he surpassed 2024 Maxwell Award winner Ashton Jeanty, who amassed 2,601 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns on 7.0 yards per carry. By comparison, Skattebo totaled 1,711 rushing yards (5.8 YPC), 605 receiving yards, and 24 total touchdowns. Despite the statistical gap, Skattebo’s dominance and potential at the next level remain undeniable.

However, not all analysts are sold on his NFL future. ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper ranks Skattebo as the eighth-best running back in the 2025 class, behind players like Quinshon Judkins, Omarion Hampton, and Dylan Sampson. If NFL teams share this assessment, skipping the Senior Bowl—an opportunity to improve his draft stock—could prove to be a costly decision for Skattebo.
