BREAKING NEWS: Alabama 5-star wide receiver sets record for longest touchdown run in NFL playoffs

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams reclaimed the record for the longest touchdown run by an Alabama alumnus in NFL playoff history on Saturday night. This time, he also secured the record for the longest postseason touchdown run by a player from an Alabama high school or college.

Williams achieved the milestone with a 61-yard touchdown run late in the first half of the Lions’ Divisional Weekend matchup against the Washington Commanders at Ford Field in Detroit.

The run broke the previous record of 44 yards set by Derrick Henry during the Baltimore Ravens’ 28-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in last week’s AFC Wild-Card game. Henry’s record-breaking play had, in turn, surpassed Williams’ 42-yard touchdown run from the Lions’ NFC Championship Game loss to the San Francisco 49ers on January 28, 2024.

Before Williams’ feat on Saturday, the longest postseason touchdown run by a player from an Alabama high school or college had been a 58-yarder by former Auburn running back Ronnie Brown. Brown set that record during the San Diego Chargers’ 27-10 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in an AFC Wild-Card game on January 5, 2014.
